Stories for every day of the Jewish calendar.
'Tell me a story!' This is the eternal plea of almost every child. And the secret wish of nearly all adults, as well. Who doesn't love a story? For excitement. For inspiration. For education. Jewish history and heritage are filled with fascinating stories that reveal the greatness of our teachers, the aspirations of our little people, and that create an atmosphere of Jewish life and faith. Outstanding teachers have known for thousands of years that the way to win a child's heart, and then his mind, is through a fascinating story. G. Sofer knew it too. That is why he combed the highways and byways of our literature and history to give us at least one story, and often more, for every day of the year. Some come from the Talmud and Midrash, some come from our own times; all offer pleasure and seeds of faith and wisdom that will strike roots in receptive heart of all ages. Of course, like all good storytellers, Sofer dramatizes his tale to help draw us into their spirit and make them more memorable and meaningful. This book is part of a multi-part set that has won respect and popularity in Israel. This new translation by Shaindel Weinbach is bound to do the same in the English-speaking world. Illustrated by Miriam Bardugo.
