Rabbi Yosef Karo (1488â€“1575) author of Shulchan Aruch, was not only a learned scholar; he was also a pure and holy man to such a degree that when he studied Kabbalah he was taught by a special angel called a maggid who descended from heaven to reveal to him the innermost secrets of the Torah and to disclose the future to him.
