Known simply as the “Rebbe’s Haggadah”—it is unique for both its comprehensiveness and extraordinary concise and succinct style. Featuring a commentary culled from the full array of our classical sources-ranging from Bible, Talmud, Midrashim and the legal codes to more recent writings, covering Halacha, exegetical texts, Kabbalah and Chassidic works—it complements these with original insights and analytic comments by the Rebbe himself.
The commentary focuses primarily on explicating the essential meaning of the Haggadahs contents, and to clarify such passages, procedures or customs which may appear somehow problematic. The Rebbe’s Haggadah is a critically acclaimed classic, and continues to enlighten and inspire countless students with greater understanding and appreciation of Pesach.
The present edition includes the complete original Rebbe's notes on the Haggadah and a running commentary, Dover Shalom, by Chabad scholar Rabbi Shalom D. Levine, with additional annotations. In this edition, Rabbi Levine quotes the full citations of some 1,000 sources referenced, in brief, in the Rebbe’s commentary.
It is hoped that this publication will make it easier for the general public to study the Rebbe’s Haggadah and fathom at least some of its vast profundity.
