These tractates covers the subjects of the firstborn of humans and the firstlings of animals, and the vows of valuation or contributions to the Temple.

The Steinsaltz Talmud serves as a bridge between the ancient text and the modern world. The obscure Talmudic discussions are reframed for the contemporary mind; the text is punctuated and vocalized and explained by a brilliantly lucid commentary; and the findings of modern linguistics, archeology, botany, zoology, physics, and other sciences are correlated with parallel references in the Talmud. The volumes are replete with illustrations. In his commentaries and introductions, Rabbi Steinsaltz summarizes the views of 1500 years of commentaries and much more, creating a fresh dialogue between the ancient text and modern man. For the first time, the Talmud is becoming comprehensible to the uninitiated as well as to the scholar.
