This work is written according to the first chapter of Mesillas Yesharim, the Path of the Just. Its goal is to assist man in developing refined character traits, which is the entire purpose of existence. Our Sages have commented on the importance of character development.
In Tzetel Katan it is noted, “Man was created to eradicate the adverse traits of his nature. The great Vilna Gaon commented, “If not for breaking my character, why should I live? It is also recorded that the late Salanter Gaon said, “It is easier to study the entire Talmud than to perfect one characteristic.
When one will utilize this classic with earnest devotion unlike one who studies by rote – rather with a yearning to improve every domain including his heart, soul, money, and a desire to teach his children, then, with Divine Assistance he will succeed in building beautiful wholesome generations. They will display quality character traits, respect and honor for parents and teachers. Surely these children will be the pride of our Nation.
